photo Do you know what that book you checked out from the Library went through to get to the shelf?

bullet It starts with each book looked up in the library's computer system.

bullet Then it is assigned to a branch or branches.

bullet Next the book is given a call number - for fiction it is the author's name, and for nonfiction it is a unique dewey decimal number.

bullet Then the book is barcoded to track the book at the library or when it goes home with you.

bullet The next step is to stamp the book with the name of the library to which it has been assigned - Feldheym, Rowe, Inghram or Villasenor.

bullet Then a spine label is attached.

bullet Now a library logo is applied to the book.

bullet Hardbacked books are covered in a mylar jacket to protect the dust jacket of the book.

bullet Finally the finished product, with any reserve slips for patrons, is placed on specially assigned shelves for delivery to each branch daily.
