Public Works-Integrated Waste Management Division

Effective April 1, 2016, the City of San Bernardino entered into an exclusive franchise agreement with Burrtec Waste Industries (Burrtec) to provide trash, recycling and some rights-of-way services to City residents and businesses. Rights-of-way (i.e. sidewalks) responsibilities include street sweeping and bulky item pickup services (must be pre-scheduled). Burrtec has begun to bill refuse services to customers directly and payments may be submitted via mail, at their office location or via Burrtec.com

Summary:

  • Services will remain unchanged. This includes Residential City Clean-up Days.
  • Current barrels (residential) will be serviced on the same day of service at the same monthly rate. 
  • Holiday's observed: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Years
  • Day. When the holiday falls on a weekday, collections for the remainder of the week will be delayed by one day.
  • There is no service interruption or delay when the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday.

PLEASE NOTE: Illegal dumping issues/concerns remain the responsibility of the City of San Bernardino Integrated Waste division. It is of utmost importance that the community report illegal dump sites/locations. You have three ways to report the concern:

  • Submit a request through the City's GORequest mobile application - 24/7

Exclusive Waste Disposal Contract - Burrtec

Rates are in effect January 1, 2009, as established by Resolution 2008-433.

Municipal Codes 8.21 and 8.24 set forth San Bernardino City law for the appropriate containment, collection, and disposal of garbage, rubbish, recyclable discards, green waste, combustible material, and byproducts.

California State Mandated Solid Waste Diversion
Like all California communities, the City of San Bernardino is required by the State to divert materials being land-filled through reducing waste at the source, reuse of materials, and recycling and composting.
