City Hall Recycling
City Hall established a building-wide office paper recycling program in 1995. Various sizes and shapes of blue
collection containers are provided by the Public Works Department for deskside and common areas such as copier and mail rooms. Acceptable materials include all reasonably clean and dry paper products and cardboard. Beverage and food containers are restricted to minimize contamination to keep the containers clean. City office employees are responsible for emptying the contents of their recycling containers into the larger containers in the common areas, and the Facilities Department custodial staff wheel out these containers when they are full to a 3CY bin dedicated for commingled recyclables. Approximately 9CY of loose mixed materials are diverted each week from City Hall.

City Satellite Facilities Recycling
City Satellite Facilities receive either front-load bin service or curbside automated cart service for recycling:

Arrowhead Credit Union Park - Home of the Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino

Home of the Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino baseball organization, formerly named the San Bernardino Stampede, Minor League affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, this stadium hosts about 70 home games per season with a seating capacity of 5000. "66ers" staff have been recycling boxes and office paper at the Park since opening in 1996.

In Spring 2001, they joined efforts with the City Public Works Department and the California Department of Conservation to collect recyclable beverage containers with a pilot collection program for the patrons.

In April 2002 twenty-four permanent beverage container recycling stations were installed, and the new season opened with all but one concession stand converted from fountain drinks to bottled and canned beverages only. Kids help collect empty bottles and cans at intermission during Friday, Saturday, and Sunday games, and volunteers from not-for-profit organizations such as Habitat for Humanity collect beverage containers from the stands after games toward benefiting their programs - a win-win partnership!.

City of San Bernardino Waste Reduction - Special Wastes

Batteries
Each department handles their own battery wastes - here are a couple local options:

Electronics Reuse & Recycling

Printer Cartridge Recycling

Spent LASER TONER CARTRIDGES are collected in Central Stores and returned to the manufacturers. Spent INK JET CARTRIDGES are returned in prepaid mailing envelopes provided by manufactures with each order of new cartridges. OR, both LASER TONER and INK JET CARTRIDGES may be returned to a number of to benefit not-for-profit organizations. Stop by the Public Works window on the 4th floor of City Hall to request prepaid mail pouches or labels.

Tyvek® Envelopes

Tyvek® is a DuPont product made from 25% post-consumer (used milk and water jugs) plastic that is tear-resistant and water-resistant, but looks like paper and feels like paper. Unfortunately, because Tyvek® resembles paper, it is difficult to sort out as a contaminant from recyclable paper. However, Tyvek® itself is recyclable and may be collected separately to be reprocessed rather than landfilled. Priority and overnight mail services, such as FedEx and the US Postal Service, use Tyvek® envelopes. The envelopes may or may not have the Tyvek® content labeled, but a quick tear test will tell.

Empty Tyvek® envelopes may be brought to the Public Works window on the 4th floor of City Hall or routed through Interoffice Mail with a slip addressed to Public Works. Please fill one envelope with other Tyvek® envelopes to limit routing.
