SBMWD Distribution System Celebrated for Over 100 Years of Reliable Service

December 1, 2017

The San Bernardino Municipal Water Department (SBMWD) water distribution system was recognized at the Water Board meeting held on November 14th, 2017, for having provided over 100 years of reliable water service to the City of San Bernardino.

SBMWD staff and Water Board President Ms. Toni Callicott proudly accepted membership to the Cast Iron Pipe Century Club for a water main on 4th Street, which was installed in 1909 and continues to provide service to this day.

"Longevity of service such as this can only be acheived by excellence in design and installation, along with outstanding operational maintenance over a long period of time." said Mr. Josuhua Blount of the Ductile Iron Pipe Research Association. "This presentation also allows us to recognize the daily commitment of your water department and engineering professionals, both past and present, to provide the citizens of San Bernardino with safe, plentiful and reliable drinking water."

The City of San Bernardino Municipal Water Department joins more than 630 other utilities across the US and Canada as an official Cast Iron Pipe Century Club member.
