Mission Statement for Sewer Maintenance

"To protect the environment and the welfare of the residents of the City of San Bernardino by managing and maintaining the City's sanitary sewer infrastructure."

Sewer Maintenance

Under the direction of the Public Works Director, the Sewer Maintenance Section is responsible for maintaining approximately 510 miles of sewer mains. They use jetting and vacuum equipment to keep the lines cleared. Sewer lines are cleaned on varying schedules. The crew uses video equipment to record the condition of sewer lines and handles emergency repairs 24 hours a day.

Sewer System Management Plan (SSMP)

The State Water Resources Control Board (State Water Board) adopted Statewide General Waste Discharge Requirements (WDRs) for Sanitary Sewer Systems, Water Quality Order No. 2006-0003 (Sanitary Sewer Order) on May 2, 2006.

The Sanitary Sewer Order requires public agencies that own or operate sanitary sewer systems to develop and implement sewer system management plans and report all sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) to the State Water Board's online SSO database.
