Public Records

The Public Records Act requires "except with regard to public records exempt from disclosure provisions, each agency, upon request for copies of reasonably described and identified public records, shall make the records available upon payment of fees covering costs of duplication."

Many of the City of San Bernardino's public records can be requested through the City Clerk's Office. Upon receipt of a request for identifiable public records, the City Clerk's Office shall determine within ten (10) calendar days if the records are public, and maintained within the City Clerk's Office. If located within the City Clerk's Office, the requester shall be notified of an approximate time when the documents will be available and the total cost. For most documents the cost is (fee schedule as adopted by the City Council on 05-20-2020):

First five copies - No Charge
Each additional copy - $0.25 per copy
FPPC copies - $0.10 per copy

ALL Building permits are available online either through laserfiche or Accela. Planning activities from the year 2000 to present are also available online.

This information can be assessed immediately, free of charge through the City website by clicking on Departments/Community Development/Building & Safety/Search Historical Permit Records Online.

Plans, either for Building and Safety or Planning, are not available online.
