Registered Sex Offender on Parole Arrested on Multiple Charges After Prowling Near a Child's Home
Posted on Sep 03, 2022

Police received multiple calls regarding the suspect, Alvon Terry, loitering in a quiet neighborhood cul-de-sac on the city’s westside. Concerned citizens notified police that Terry was looking into homes and vehicles, and he attempted to open windows of homes in the neighborhood.

Upon contact, officers discovered Terry is currently on parole and is a registered sex offender with a prior conviction for annoying or molesting a child under 18 years old. Detectives and investigators from the Specialized Crimes Unit took over the investigation and canvassed the neighborhood collecting physical evidence, eyewitness accounts and locating surveillance footage cameras.

Area residents proved to be tremendously helpful with the investigation. One citizen found a handwritten map made by Terry and provided it to the police. The map showed a detailed description of the cul-de-sac, which included addresses, vehicle descriptions, and notes describing homes occupied by females. Terry had physical descriptions of the females, singling out one adult and one juvenile in a disturbing and graphic sexual manner. Terry specifically cited a residence where a young girl resided, making notes of this location with crude, sexually explicit details about the girl. Investigators learned that this was the residence where neighbors had reported Terry trying to open the windows.

Further investigative leads revealed that Terry had visited the small residential street numerous times and would spend a considerable amount of time watching the movements of the families in the neighborhood, which he also noted on his hand-drawn map.

Terry was so brazen that he conducted this disturbing behavior all while being monitored via an electronic monitoring device. The monitor was affixed to his ankle as part of his parole conditions.

Terry was located and arrested without incident. He is currently in custody at a local jail facility on a parole violation with pending charges for this disturbing behavior. Additionally, Terry’s statements during his interview with detectives showed there was intent to commit crimes of a sexual nature.
